Insuring Your Home - Julie Farrow, Farmer's Insurance, Julie Farrow Insurance Agency

“Home” can look very different for different people and it is important to have the right insurance to cover your unique situation. Types of homes:

Standard “stick-built” home with standard sized-family, mega home for ultra-wealthy or very large families, mobile home, home in course of construction, condo, home you rent out to others, home you rent from another – all require specific coverage and have certain limitations.

For traditional stick-built homes, insurance coverage is segmented into different coverage areas:  Dwelling, Separate Structures, Personal Property, and Liability.  The Dwelling amount is the driver for most of the other coverage limits.

It is important to know what is not covered in your policy.  Flood, earthquake, wars, civil unrest are often excluded.  Also many personal property items have maximum limits that may need to be modified beyond the basic policy for some families.

It is important to take the time to talk with one’s agent to make sure the features of your home are being properly covered or understand what is not covered so that there will not be surprises during the claims process.
