Sarah Garrett will be presenting a recent case example of a patient with some very concerning symptoms and abnormal lab results. She will discuss the everyday thought process of a primary care physician and the importance of taking the time to listen to patients, as well as thorough clinical investigation.

Dr. Garrett is a primary care physician with a doctorate in Naturopathic medicine. She sees a wide variety of conditions in her practice and loves to get at the real cause of each, so that proper treatment and management can be made. Treatment options she offers are: standard pharmaceutical prescriptions as well as; herbal medications, dietary recommendations, nutritional supplements, etc.

The holidays are upon us, and we find ourselves looking for that special gift for someone or for some great stocking stuffers.

Chris Hansen, Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay, will share some of her ideas for holiday gift giving, and she’ll even have some gift sets available for purchase (some already wrapped).  There are gift ideas for any price range, too.  There are some lovely fragranced hand creams (Vanilla Berry and Vanilla Mint) as well as some yummy lip balms.  Add to those a special “Winter Wishes” shower gel and body lotion set — and there are also four really fun Eye Color Quads (Sandstorm, Black Ice, Autumn Leaves and Chai Latte).  The colors are simply beautiful.

So if you’re stumped as to what to get for someone’s stocking (or a little extra gift), come hear some fun holiday ideas from Chris on Thursday, December 4, 2014 (from noon until 1:15 pm).  Chris will stay after the meeting for a time if anyone has any questions or would like to take some products home.

As always, there will be a few prize drawings!

“Home” can look very different for different people and it is important to have the right insurance to cover your unique situation.

Types of homes:

Standard “stick-built” home with standard sized-family, mega home for ultra-wealthy or very large families, mobile home, home in course of construction, condo, home you rent out to others, home you rent from another – all require specific coverage and have certain limitations.

For traditional stick-built homes, insurance coverage is segmented into different coverage areas:  Dwelling, Separate Structures, Personal Property, and Liability.  The Dwelling amount is the driver for most of the other coverage limits.

It is important to know what is not covered in your policy.  Flood, earthquake, wars, civil unrest are often excluded.  Also many personal property items have maximum limits that may need to be modified beyond the basic policy for some families.

It is important to take the time to talk with one’s agent to make sure the features of your home are being properly covered or understand what is not covered so that there will not be surprises during the claims process.

In this talk, I’ll briefly go over what supported employment is, what my role is as an employment specialist, and why it’s important to employ persons with disabilities in our communities.

I work for a non-profit agency called Work Opportunities. It has been around for over 50 years and started in Seattle. It expanded to Whatcom County in 2007 and has provided vocational services to adults with disabilities ever since. As an employment specialist, I work one on one with clients and try to match them to an appropriate career for their interests and abilities. I try to match the employer’s needs with the client’s in an effort to build sustainable relationships.

When you need financial & tax law advice, you use the services of a Certified Public Accountant. If you need a hair cut, you go to a licensed hair stylist; for a massage, to a licensed massage therapist. When you need to buy or sell real estate, consult a licensed Realtor.
